The Farragut Intermediate School Parent Teacher Association (FIS PTA) website! We are a local PTA organized under the Knox County Council PTA, the Tennessee PTA and the National PTA.

Have you ever wondered what exactly our PTA does and where your membership dues to toward? During this school year, our PTA has:

  • Had 1,289 members
  • Collected approximately 30 thirty gallon bags of new and gently used clothing items for the Knox County Clothing Center
  • Collected 216 pairs of jeans to be donated to a homeless shelter downtown
  • Collected 411 pounds of peanut butter
  • Sold 379 Spirit Wear t-shirts and sweatshirts
  • Helped over 1000 children in the clinic
  • Had 382 entries in the Student Enrichment Contests
  • Planted flowers, killed weeds, pulled tons of weeds, and picked up bags and bags of garbage
  • Conducted over 200 Science Labs
  • Helped distribute 6,050 Knox County Coupon Books
  • Purchased $1,000 worth of books for the library
  • Designed and sold 740 Yearbooks
  • Earned $3,274 from Box Tops
  • Provided lots of treats and TLC for our teachers
  • Hosted 2 McTeacher’s Nights that raised over $1200 for our classrooms
  • Hosted Family Fun Night and purchased an active-board tuner for nearly every classroom with the proceeds.  (All classrooms will be complete after these are installed.)
  • Secured a $1,500 grant from the Town of Farragut for our Science Lab
  • Will host a 5th Grade Celebration and the Annual FIS Variety Show
  • Received an Award of Merit for Advocacy in Action, as well as an Award of Merit for Outstanding Local Unit from Knox County Council PTA
  • Distributed 10 monthly newsletters (11,300 copies!)
  • Volunteered over 19,800 hours at FIS!

Wow! What a year! Thank you to every parent, student, teacher, and administrator for every contribution of time, talent, and resources you’ve made to FIS this year! People are what make a school successful! Thank you for doing your part!

Family Fun Night a Great Success!!

Thank you to all that participated in Family Fun Night on March 9! It was a great success and we could not have done it without you!

 

FIS PTA Updates Keep Parents Informed about Legislation Important to Education

Watch your child's backpack for Legislative Bulletins, which will detail education-related legislation moving through the state Senate and House of Representatives. In last month's. In last month's newsletter, the bulletin provided a short history of the PTA's advocacy in support of children and families. The article mentioned important issues currently being addressed in Nashville: school vouchers and whether superintendents should be elected or appointed.

Recyclables

Take your recyclables to the green bin marked FIS. It's an easy way to help our school and save the planet! The bin is located in the lower parking lot. Bring: newspapers, magazines, catalogs, paper, junk mail, file folders.... DO NOT BRING: anything that is laminated or waxed, has crayon or glue on it, posterboard, paper containers, brown envelopes or construction paper.

 
News at a Glance

We are having a LUAU for all of the fifth-graders on May 4 from 6:00 - 7:30. All fifth-graders are invited to this end-of-year party that will include pizza, drinks, desserts, a DJ and inflatables!! Entrance fee is $10.
